Kit turns on his heel, ready to run back into the house, but Dru’s hand clamps on his wrist. He turns to her, and that tiny grin grows into a smirk.
He’s freaking stuck.
Then the figure comes into focus, and he couldn’t move if he wanted to.
Dark, freshly-inked runes swirl up his arms, disappearing into the sleeves of a black t-shirt. Against his untanned, milk-pale skin, they stand out like ink in cream. Ty’s slim hands hang by his thighs, brushing the edges of the double daggers lying in sheaths there. The daggers are the only weapons visible, but Kit is sure there’s more.
Oh, crap.
Three years look good on him.

"What we need is the rest of the Institute," Flynn said, walking closer to Julie who was trying to make sure Luke still had a pulse.
"They should be on their way, Luke made the call," Reggie said.
"We don’t know how long-" Julie started to say when her head snapped back to Luke. Her fingers were against the side of his neck, right above his pulse point. Only she couldn’t feel anything anymore. She looked at his chest, unmoving. "He’s not breathing," she choked out.
"Shit," Flynn said as she came up on his other side right next to Alex who threw the overly bloodied towel on the floor and grabbed the other one, applying the same pressure.

He has now taken refuge at the New York Institute, close to the Consul and to the only other Herondale he knows. The Scholomance has answered the Clave’s call and decided to assign three of their First Company Centurions to Kit’s security. One of them is Tiberius Blackthorn, whom Kit hasn’t been in contact with since he last saw him, three years ago.

Teresa Gray sets down her coffee. She props her elbows up on the table, rests her chin on her fists, and looks him deep in the eyes. “You loved him?” She puts special emphasis on the past-tense of the middle word, and Kit feels the last of his defenses come crashing down.
