Levi has come a long way since he was found living in the streets, his true nature unknown to himself and to those around him. After the night this nature surfaced, he was taken in by an underground boss who shed a bit of light on his being. Years later and trained as an assassin, he has steeled himself against things like affection and love. They are too dangerous for a man of his kind.
He is proven right when his next job rolls around. As the daughter of a weapons lord is threatened, Levi gets hired to guard her and her brother 24/7. And what do you know, a young man, locked up in his own home and bored to death, has a lot of energy left to spend trying to get closer to the new employee. He shows Levi that he isn’t as stone-heartened as he pretends to be. Nonetheless, Levi's in deep conflict about his own identity, not willing to let the boy get too close and fall prey to the darkness of his twisted life.
Shortly after the reason for his current assignment appears on the scene, Levi realises that yet he knows only the half of his true self and has been kept in the dark not only about his origins, but about his connection to the family he protects as well. Torn between vengeance and love he has to decide.

Due to random universe warping-shenanigans, Simone Sumpter is now rooming with Humanity's Strongest. He's a hot angsty piece of ass, but Simone can't focus on that because the government is hot on he and the Survey Corps' scent, making the dimension hop seem not so random. Will Simone and Levi make out? Will they ever bump uglies? Why is Simone such a perv? Why are these the only questions being addressed? Find out in A Shitty Love!

He searches her face, but he had never been very good at reading her. She was probably the only person he was able to even attempt it with; but right now she was just a mess of fatigue and what seemed to be anger. Or at least the remanence of it. Thunder rolls overhead, and the rain patters against the nearby window a little harder than before. She glances that way and smirks as the droplets race their way to the sill, her lips pull into that derivative curl that he saw so rarely.
"Levi." She says and her voice is so calmly monotone he feels like he should double-check it was in fact the manic woman so often too loud in his ear. Right now though she was deafening in her quietness. Her eyes stay fixed on that grey shroud currently pissing on them. Had she even blinked yet? He licks his lips and leans on his knees.
"What's going on, Hanji?"
The sound of her name on his lips makes the smirk almost turn into a smile, before the thunder returns and it melts back into submission.
"I'm having those… stupid thoughts again."
He knew what that meant, and unfortunately he knew where it lead to when left to stew. It happened whenever she hit a wall with research....
As she fiddles with the frayed edging of a notebook he sees the shake to her hand, this was a bad session. Clearly there had been far more over-thinking than researching. She had dug herself in deep this time, and the rain was only filling it up and drowning her.
"Can't block them out this time?" he says, slightly tilting his head, dark hair falling across his eyes as he seeks out the right words. And failing as usual. She attempts a smile, but as the rain lashes down a flash of lightning crashes down over the mountains, and she grits her teeth. The shake to her hand momentarily stronger.
"N-No I can't. Ugh." She scrapes her hair back, looking at him with apology lingering in her gaze. He hates that look. "It hurts, Levi. Make it stop?"
He looks up at her and sighs, sitting forward and pushing an errant strand of hair back behind her ear. This woman was the reason for many a headache, and most days he wanted to throttle her babbling self. But she also gave him a rare reason to smile, to look back on the past with more than a grimace or tightened jaw.
Set after the events in the manga chapters 71-72, the story begins two days before the planned excursion to Shiganshina and Erwin's final endgame. Levi must come face to face with the demons that have been slowly breaking apart the sanity of his shadowed soul. But when the steam and ash of that fated mission clears, what will become of him... and who will be left standing?
This is in part a writing exercise, inspired by a musing on tumblr about the slow, progressive derailment of Levi in the canonverse and his need for development. Implied one-sided Erwin/Levi and possible future Ereri. No flames, but please comment.
