  1. I like the discussion on the plants too. And the negotiation about 'sensitive topics'. I absolutely loved Mortimer's summing up of the Confederate position as fighting your own countrymen just to keep slaves all under the guise of not liking the federal government telling you what to do.

    And the final sentence of the chapter is a wonderful punch-line (and cliff-hanger).

      Thank you! I rather let my own feelings come out regarding the Civil War and such things. I like to think that Mortimer would be a principled man who would only fight because he had no choice. He didn't seem to get that much pleasure out of killing, at least that's what I like to think based on what little we know of him from the movie.
