"Steve Rogers neither begins nor ends with Captain America. Before all that, before the fame and the horror and the loss, Steve is just another hungry kid from Brooklyn. Braver than most—or more bull-headed, depending on who you ask—but pretty average. Discounting the bad heart, the bad lungs, the bad temper, or at least that’s what Bucky always says when Steve does something really stupid, but he'll always add ‘the best guy I ever known’ at the end of the list."
The story of the First Avenger with almost all the bits from the movie, then several additions to canon.

Steve Rogers exists in the twilight of his grief and the modern world he's woken to find himself a part of. Soon, he's forced to put his sorrow aside as an otherworldly threat materializes, the Tesseract reappears and no one's yet learned not to mess around with it, and a squad of unlikely people need to band together to defend the world. And if they can't, well... they'll sure as hell avenge it.
In short: the Avengers (2012), but focused on Steve's journey.

It’s been two years since Steve woke from the ice and he’s doing just fine. Kinda. Sorta. Never mind that the things he actually enjoys are things he’s stumbled upon on accident, that he has very little control of his insane work schedule, or that the amount of people he’s managed to befriend outside of the Avengers so far is zero.
But he’s trying. That’s got to count for something.
But while he’s been trying to move on, past enemies have flourished in plain sight. Now, one of them is heading straight for Steve. With a knife. To the face.
And everything starts to come down.

When S.H.I.E.L.D. fell, Steve thought it was going to make a difference. That he was going to be free, that he was going to bring Bucky home.
Instead, he and the Avengers have been grounded, snared in a political web that grows ever tighter as the S.H.I.E.L.D. trials progress. The Avengers have been forced into the role of a special ops military squad and are deployed only when necessary and only to fight HYDRA. In between missions, Steve makes desperate attempts to find Bucky.
But Bucky isn't ready to be found.
Reclaiming his name was easy. All the things that come with it? Less so. But he's trying, finding his way between the clashing identities in his head. On one hand, there's James Barnes, who feels everything too much, too strong. On the other, there's the Soldier, cold and void and restless. And between them? The fragmented pieces of Bucky.
Meanwhile, a new conflict is brewing: a vigilante arises, causing more public unrest. The Age of Heroes rose fast, but maybe... the time has come for it to fall.
