“You asked for a demonstration,” Feng Xin said, trailing firm fingers over the lines of his back, painting characters with warm thumbs and fingernails.
It was the perfect pressure to go with the perfect touch. It soothed something in him he didn’t know was upset, and he relaxed against the bed with a quiet breath.

“What?” He snapped, and it came out so very soft. He had no rage in him anymore, not when rope kept him from jolting away.

Words echoed in his mind, quiet as the wind pressing over bare skin. They were soft, gentle as sand beneath his feet and warm as the clench of Mu Qing’s body.
It was the smallest prayer Feng Xin had ever heard, but it stabbed into his heart quick as a saber.
I wish you loved me. I wish you loved me, Feng Xin.
Or: Mu Qing and Feng Xin finally discuss feelings, and it goes about as well as you would expect.
