Summary
The Realm of Light and the Realm of Darkness have coexisted in peace for hundreds of years thanks to, in part, a temporary year-long exchange of royal representatives once a generation. Prince-knight Terra of the Realm of Light was sent to the Realm of Darkness almost a year ago for the exchange, but something went wrong. Unfortunately, no one can figure out what happened, not even Terra himself. Now, war is on the horizon, and everyone at the Land of Departure must deal with the past in order to face the uncertain future.

When I was young my Master told me a story when I was sick. A story with adventure, keyblade fights, torture, disaster, true love, miracles....
A fairy tale, to be certain.
But for some reason, that fairy tale stuck with me. In searching for the whole story, I found that the tale my Master had woven for me was just the “good parts” version of a much longer and dryer satire regarding the three kingdoms of yesteryear... But the story is still a good one, so I decided to write down the good parts for future generations. And so, herein lies the tale of Prince Riku, his beloved Sora, and their friends, foes, frenemies and the occasional R.O.U.S.

Summary
Vanitas and Ventus met each other in their first year of school, where Ventus walked all over Vanitas' perfectly laid lego trap of death and destruction and cried in the corner for ten minutes. Somehow from that they became best friends, and even as they grew up and their personalities clashed like darkness to light- it remained that way for years.
Yet growing up under stressful conditions doesn't always yield the greatest results. Especially when you're Vanitas, because everything just hates him apparently and the world is constantly out to get him. All he wants to do is protect his best friend, and sometimes he can't even do that.
Or alternatively: Vanitas and Ventus grow up together and go through some shit.

She should have known better than to let her guard down for even a second, she knew the Realm would take advantage of any sign of weakness from her. But she was growing tired of fighting, tired of dragging herself to through the darkness in some vague attempt of finding a way back to the Realm of Light. She could feel that her eyes were already closed, sleep dragging her deeper into the dark depths. She should open her eyes, try to wrestle her way out of the tendrils of darkness wrapping around her, trying to convince her to stay asleep, to finally rest. She should be doing that, but all she could feel was a numbing sense of hopelessness spreading throughout her body.
Maybe… this has been all for nothing.
