"Of course you aren't, but I'm not dead yet, Joe." She bumps him on the shoulder with a closed fist. It's a poor imitation of her playful punch. "Besides, isn't Nicky older by a few years?"
Joe laughs, but it's more like a sob. "You know what I mean, Andy."They’ve never been without at least the shadow of Andy’s guidance.

Sometimes the pressure subsides temporarily, and then in the quiet moments it returns, prickling at Joe’s awareness, distracting him until his head is buzzing with a whirlwind of nagging thoughts and emotions. Of what ifs. He needs to be drawn out, fighting all the way against the instinct to surrender.
As soon as the locks on the cuffs click into place, Joe jerks back, testing the give and finding them secure. One more tug, just to feel the delicious strain against his arms, then he drops his head forward until his blindfolded eyes meet the pillow and his ass is high in the air. Presenting, Nicky had called it once, and the heat in his eyes as he said it burned into the very depths of Joe’s being.

Months later, Joe and Nicky are still processing Booker’s betrayal. Joe looks at the love of his life and struggles to recall when he last saw Nicky laugh. Nicky looks back, both silently acknowledging the small cracks that have formed between them. They need to reconnect, do something fun together.
Nicky spins in the middle of the dancefloor, one arm held above his head, the other arcing gracefully around his torso. Silver glitter melts down the sides of his face and he’s wearing his biggest, best smile, the one he only does when he really means it. Joe is utterly entranced. Their kiss is filthy, hot, flavoured with chocolate.
