Summary
John is just beginning to lose hope that he’ll ever get out of this mess when he hears footsteps. Two sets, if he’s not imagining things, though with the amount he’s had to drink he wouldn’t be quite surprised if he was. He feels hot, even with how cold his hands and feet are, his head spinning, and try as he might he cannot seem to extricate himself from the mess of ropes and rigging he’s tangled himself up into.

Summary
John stares down at the paper in front of him, chewing on his eraser. He tries his hardest to ignore the twisting in his stomach — even as it mimics the twists of rope and limbs and curly hair on the page — focusing only on the artistic merit of what he’s drawn. He doesn’t think it counts as vanity to say that he really thinks he’s captured the model’s essence here; his long limbs, the slight curve of his waist, the slack, blissful expression on his face; it’s all there, staring up at him from the paper in crisp graphite.
And yet, John would be the first to admit he’s out of his depth here tonight. It’s only been within the last year that he’s even allowed himself to admit his attraction to men at all, let alone try to actually do anything about it. This figure drawing session had been an attempt at tiptoeing into a new world of sex positivity, a safe environment to surround himself with people who were more comfortable with themselves than he was.
That was, of course, when he had assumed the models would be women.
