As you know, today is the five-year anniversary of not only the bill that prevents mutant segregation and experimentation but also the day beloved Professor X was shot and paralyzed at the celebration. In light of this, Xavier has released a new album! It is adequately called ‘Friendly Fire’ in reference to that day when a human radical shot into the crowd and famed mutant activist Erik Lehnsherr deflected the bullets from the crowd only for one to end up in Xavier’s back. Yes, I know what everyone is thinking, FINALLY! Professor X has not released any music since he left the music industry to open his school for mutants, Xavier’s School for gifted youngsters. In such time of its opening, it is now the largest mutant school in the world and has a 100% graduation rate. Besides the occasional speech, Xavier has kept himself and his kids out of the spotlight, until today. Without further ado, here is Professor X’s new song ‘Wrong Direction’”

Summary
Charles takes a deep breath to steal himself and nearly collapses on the floor out of the sheer pain the motion tugs out of his bruised ribs and stomach. Tears crowd his eyes, and even that, causes his left cheek to throb. He takes another breath despite the pain and leans on the counter for support. He feels lightheaded and dizzy. The tears threaten to surpass the barrier of his eyes and flow down his cheeks. No, he won’t cry. He can’t; because he doesn’t think he’d stop once he starts. Besides, crying will only empower Kurt further. He can’t let the man break him in every way possible.
Just as he’s about to open the tap to splash water over his eyes, the door to the bathroom bursts open and Erik enters through it.
Shit. What is Erik doing here? Shouldn’t he be in a lecture? Even if he wanted to just use the urinals, there’s already a toilet on their floor. He needn’t have walked across the campus to use the one specifically Charles is in. But before Charles could voice any of those thoughts, Erik asks in a voice as hard as steel, ‘What happened to your face?’

The aftermath of 'Turn off the light':
When people say that you see the light when you meet death, they should really say that when you die you take the light with you. Because Charles was dead, and suddenly everything was dark, and yet some things were made clear. In the darkness, the people left behind realise what it really means when they say to not take anything for granted. They realise their mistakes, their biases, the hurt that they unwittingly conjured - and what really hurts is that they only realised once it was too late. The light had already been turned off and taken away, and there was no power in the world that could turn it on again.

Summary
For some reason, people thought that Charles's telepathy was like turning a light on and off. That, if he wanted to rummage around someone's head, he would just flick a switch and dive in to his heart's content, and once he was done, he could tug on the switch and be just like everyone else.
But telepathy wasn't like a light to be turned on and off. It was more akin to breathing. Charles could hold his breath for a short while, but there was really only one way to stop breathing completely, wasn't there?
So, like that, Charles turned off the light.

The Lake House AU:
Erik is an estate planning lawyer who takes some time off to get away from the big city after his marriage fell apart. He lives in a picturesque lake house by Chautauqua Lake for almost two years, before moving back to New York City. This is in 2019.
Charles is a famous but very private author stuck in a creative rut, and moves to his lakeside estate for a short while to try and find a reason to write again. This is in 2017.
By magic or fate, Charles and Erik discover that the letter box at the lake house has the ability to send letters through time, between Charles in 2017 and Erik in 2019. Through letters that transcend the barriers of time, Charles and Erik fall in love. Charles vows to find Erik two years in his future, and Erik promises to wait for him. Two years - just two, meagre years.
But, fate is fickle, and time waits for no one.
