Summary
It is late in the First Age, and the War of Wrath is raging. In the dungeons of Angband, four children are born. They are raised by Morgoth and Sauron to be terrifying forces of evil, raised to serve him wholly and become lords and ladies of his realm when he wins the War. But Morgoth finds that not all of them bend to his will, finding them to be far more powerful and strong-willed than he expects.
The children grow in a place of darkness and despair, finding joy and love despite the horror, and they become a family against the odds, each of them struggling with which parts of themselves they should be true to.Characters/tags will be updated.

Summary
Some of the 'fanon' type biographies I've created for canon characters and original characters in the Desperate Hours AU, to use as 'cheat sheets' for myself, to help me remember: how I picture them in my mind's eye; how I've interpreted/changed Tolkien canon as it relates to them; how they relate to (and refer to) other characters; and various other details. Also, essays/discussions on other topics.

1. Character Notes for Elrond
2. Character Notes for Glorfindel

4. An essay on magic in the DH AU generally

7. Character bios of Theli's parents and siblings in the West
8. Character notes for Ereinion Gil-galad
9. Character notes re: Elrond’s sons Elrohir, Elladan, and Belemir (OC)Now updated with:

Summary
The Valar decree that, as the sole omega child of Fëanaro, Maglor cannot be held to the same blame as his brothers for his deeds. Obviously he was led by those stronger than him.
They offer him a deal, sent with his uncle: place himself into the care of an alpha of their choosing, to better guide him, and they will let his last brother find healing in Lorien.
It is no choice at all.

“Rumor has it,” he eventually started after another sip of water, “that it has been prophesied that Melkor will one day summon the strength to break out of his prison. He will reenter Arda with his full power back, but this time naught will be able to stop him but a lone man."
---
Eönwë helps Mairon realize his self-worth isn’t determined by Melkor’s opinion on him while trying to convince him to come back to Valinor.

Summary
Now that the world was made, shaped, and refined into something solid and beautiful upon which the tallest of trees grew and the mountains loomed majestic over the valleys, cliffs, and waterfalls below—all things which he had helped cut and carve with his own hands—there was no more need for those hands to help shape the world, and so he had traded the valleys, the mountains, the cliffs, and the hills for a smaller workspace known as a forge, where he worked with metal, ore, and stone. It was a big change for Mairon—to have been granted such grandness, and then reduced to a workshop smith.
Inside, he had long been bitter for it. Overlooked. Brought down low.
It had been the start, the very beginnings, of a thirst in him.
.
From Almaren, to Utumno, to Angband, to Tol-in-Gaurhoth.
All of his life, Mairon has been running.

The more he thought about it the more he realized he was not quite missing the Tirion of his childhood, but Nargothrond at its height. His own city, that he’d planned and helped to build with his own two hands, where his friends among the dwarves had visited so often, and where he had earned his favorite epessë. No one in Valinor called him Felagund.
