Summary
"Has it occurred to you that making friends with the ex-wife and courting the ex-husband is a little too close for comfort?"
"I never talk about them with each other," Phryne said. She chased her peas around her plate. "And besides, I said he liked me better, not that he'd fallen at my feet. He's so stiff-necked I'll never get him into bed. And I don't know why Rosie divorced him - he might be horrible, in secret. I'd rather not find out the hard way."
Mac had been in Paris after the war, and she knew about René. Phryne avoided her shrewd eye.

Summary
Phryne entered his life as Miss Fisher, a whirlwind of red and white-clad dark hair and French perfume, scattering incisive observations in her wake that swiftly proved pointless to try to discount, given her razor-sharp instincts.
Many things swiftly proved pointless: telling her no, asking her to wait for backup, or to stop that at once... mainly telling her no.

Summary
Language is powerful.
Jack Robinson acquired that knowledge early. Even as a young boy he was an avid student, and just by watching and listening he learned how deep an insult could cut and how a kind word could be a balm. So, from an early age, he was careful with what he said, lest a stray phrase injure or maim. Language was powerful and words had meaning and he… he was in control. He was a considerate student who became a careful man.
But sometimes…
Or, 5 times Jack loses control +1 time he can’t.
