They were a little team, the four of them. Two powered, two not; communication messy, loyalties strong. They were close friends, and Tommy could safely say that two years into the whole vigilante-hero-grey-area-it’s-complicated business, he was enjoying himself.
Sometimes it sucked. Sometimes they failed to stop something in time, to react quick enough. People still got hurt, crime still happened. Sometimes they slunk back to their apartment injured and in pain and having gotten their arses kicked or having spent a night cold and bored where nothing even happened at all.
But- and Tommy wasn’t about to admit this aloud to anyone-
Some nights, they came home and it was all completely and utterly worth it.

When Wilbur was younger, he grew up loving heroes. They saved the day every time didn't they? They never failed, never lost, they always got the girl, they always won. All his friends growing up liked heroes too.
His dad used to read him stories from old books every night, telling him tales of heroes and how they always defeated the villains. He didn't like the villains. They were weird and scary. They hurt everyone.
Wilbur decided at the age of 6 that he would be a hero and destroy all of the villains.

from underneath the new sewn leather, dream can see the peakings of a deep green from under the stitching. he’s curious, he always has been - so he doesnt think twice when he pulls up the floorboard which hides his old pocket knife from his father. flicking open the blade, he’s careful not to damage the new inscriptions in the red leather. the stitching rips quite easily, and dream slowly lifts the soft leather to find a blank, hard covered, green book - with the words, ‘forestry green’, inscribed in all capitals. dream frowns - much more anti climatic than the dragon on red leather, but yet he is still intrigued - and slices down the other side.
