    Summary

It's been a while since Vincent and Akira reunited in that one van Gogh exhibit. Soon she learns that Vincent waited until he could finally meet her before going to several places in hopes of visiting them for the first time with her.

As they spent their time completing Vincent's list, a pang of nagging guilt makes way to Akira's heart. With the notion that she tore him away from a life in 19th century Paris, Akira dreads to ask one particular question.

    Summary

You’d heard about Theo before you’d gone to the mansion.
Not by name, no, not by history either. You’d gone to museums with Vincent’s paintings and had read a few descriptions of historical context here and there but for the most part you had heard about his brother through a peculiar moniker.
    The Other van Gogh.

    Summary

Theo straightened the lapel of his vest. Dazai asked him, once. Why do you dress like that? You're a thief.

    I'm a businessman.

    And the difference is?

He inhaled a breath, readying himself for another moron to come by for a wish. Theo opened his eyes and waved his hand, dispersing the fog that rendered the mirror useless. He saw a blonde man with blue eyes standing there, in a dull white shirt like used chalk and beige pants. Theo held back his sardonic tongue; fashion deteriorated, it seemed.

    “Wish?”

The man blinked, woken from some trance. “My wish? Um, I guess world peace…?”

I don't even know where to begin reacting to that. “No can do. I don't have that kinda power. You're better off praying to God or whoever signs your paycheck.”

    Summary

“Must you be someone worth looking at to exist freely?”

“If I—” he started, but quieted when he realised he had raised his voice. Lisse seemed like a person that was able to accept you for everything that you are to the point that it was all too easy to mistreat her. Vincent took a deep breath. She did not deserve his frustration. If it was even that. “If I am not… worthy of looking at, or creating things worthy of looking at, then there is no point.”

The world was full of beautiful things. Therefore, the things he created had to be beautiful by proxy. He dared not give a shape to the night inside him. No torch to light his path, lest lesser creatures might prey on his mind that was brittle like glass, cracked like defected vases. He had tried to cover the gaps with sand, with clay, with the blood under his nails. But the water kept coming onto him like tides, as if it was the harmless August breeze and he crashed into himself like windchimes.

    Summary

He wished he was Johanna. She smiled so often he was sure that people would smile back. She brought with her the coziness of a lived-in house, of patched up clothing, of the way she didn't try to hide her snorts and chuckles.

    What was he?

He was the stillness of a lake. You could stare at your own reflection and find nothing inside. Even fish would not swim there.

He walked to the graveyard and thought of his other half. He called him weerkaatsen. Echo. His late brother before him was not a shadow. He was an empty room. Their parents would speak their desires into space, and it would resound into a little corner of Vincent's mind, convincing him that he would never live up to their ideals.

    Summary

Vincent doesn't like to think so, but perhaps he was made to wither.

It was a ridiculous thought. Theo would tell him such, and then divert his attention to the freshly made plate of pancakes. The smell would guide his fork to his mouth and he would chew. He'd smile at Theo and tell him it was delicious; he remembers it being so, even if the food tasted placid and tasteless on his tongue.

Good food is good food, thought Vincent. Even the world ending wouldn't change that.

    Summary

she waved a hand ambiguously. “no worries!, rather than that, what's sinterklaas like?”

“oh! it's, um, it's based of a religious figure, saint nicholas. it's saint nicholas day, and we celebrate by feasting and giving gifts. we celebrate it on the fifth, though.”

“i see,” she said, and combed through her memory from history classes. “vincent, what was sinterklaas like for you?”

“for me…?” he remembers...parchment paper. some ink. letters written to theo. he remembers sleeping on straw, and a bakery with no bread housing a homeless man. the wintry air that came in december, the candle in his hands that had gotten cold. let me see her for as long as I can keep my hand in the flame, he'd said. “i don't know.”

    Summary

Special notes: PLEASE pay mind to the CW’s. I’m not joking with them. I don’t mess around with my tags and I mean every one of them. The last few lines of the piece are DIRECT LIFTS of the lines from the end of King Lear. I know that. It is deliberate. It’s designed that way. I know it’s plagiarism, but with the speaker, their story *and* the way things played out, I deemed it perfect.

This story is an amalgam of the "Good Man Goes To War" speech from Dr. Who, the closing lines of King Lear, the "Vincent's Secret" loading screen from Ikemen Vampire, two days of not sleeping and a load of depression. Enjoy.
