Summary
Sora gets the idea for the photo album when Zack comes home from a visit to Nibelheim with Cloud, absolutely raving about how adorable of a child his fiancé had once been.
Sora is in the middle of an envelope of pictures of Zack at three years old when Kairi tugs on his arm, a fond smile on her face. In her hands is another stack of photos, with himself and Kairi clearly visible on the top of the stack. “Sora, look!” Kairi says, and he leans over to get a better look.
The picture is taken on the beach, their favourite childhood playground. Ankle deep in the water are Sora and Kairi, faces obscured by sunlight yet distinguishable by their clothes and hair. To Sora’s right is another child, in brown shorts and a paopu-yellow vest, silver hair framing his face as he splashes water at Sora and Kairi. His name comes to Sora before he even has a chance to think about it.
“Riku...” Sora gasps, and turns to look at Kairi again. “Are there more of him?”

Summary
Kairi is the first one to notice the mark on Sora’s wrist.
“Sora!” Kairi exclaims, and her voice is a combination of fond and exasperated. “Is this a real tattoo?” She pulls his wrist closer, studying the mark intently.
The outline of the crown is dark as the black ink stands out against the skin of Sora’s wrist. It matches the pendant of his necklace perfectly.
“It’s a magic tattoo.” Even Sora himself doesn’t sound entirely convinced.
Kairi raises an eyebrow at him, clearly unimpressed.

Summary
Toontown was King Mickey’s suggestion, really.
They’ve been invited out dancing, of all things. Riku would never admit to feeling nervous about the invitation, although he knows nothing will come of it. He never had the courage to tell Sora how he feels, even when it mattered most. How could he admit he’s in love in a California dance hall, after everything?

Summary
[“Draw a portrait, Sparky,” she says, “It’ll last longer.”
Zuko does not draw a portrait. Zuko gets up and disappears to wherever he’s been sleeping (alone and far away, like he’s hiding, even though sound carries too well in this temple for him to keep his screaming nightmares to himself), and Toph thinks for a moment that she’s run him off. She hasn’t run him off.
Zuko returns in a matter of minutes, holding what’s clearly a book in his hands.
“Hasn’t…” he begins, anxious without fail every time he brings attention to himself, “Hasn’t anyone ever read to you?”]
Or,
Toph thinks books are stupid. Zuko disagrees.

Summary
Hakoda knows he's out of the loop when it comes to Zuko. After all, the first time he saw Sokka since leaving to fight in the war, Sokka mentioned the angry jerk with a ponytail that was chasing them.
The next time he saw his kids, Katara was furious with Zuko for apparently betraying her to help Azula take over Ba Sing Se.
Then, he gets shipped off to the Boiling Rock after the invasion and Sokka, disguised as a guard, tells him Zuko is there and helping.
Before Hakoda knows what's happening, Sozin's Comet has arrived and suddenly Zuko is the Fire Lord.
Zuko is now one of the most powerful people in the world, more powerful than Hakoda.
So why is the Fire Lord, a master firebender with unmatched sword skills, wary of a nonbender whose only real advantage is his height?
Hakoda has seen the dark looks on his children's faces (and yes, that includes Suki and Toph and Aang, and no, Hakoda doesn't know when or how that happened) whenever Ozai is mentioned. He's heard General Iroh sneer his brother's name.
And Zuko?
Hakoda has seen him flinch. -

Summary
Sora had spotted the boy as soon as he came in. It wasn’t the silver hair or the piercing blue-green eyes that sparkled like the sea. And it wasn’t the sheer size of his arms.
It was the way he had wrinkled his nose at the smell of alcohol that sat over the whole tavern like a fog. The way he stood – upright and stiff, moving out of everyone’s way without being shoved. Both showed that he didn’t belong here – he didn’t even look old enough to be let into a pub.
Not that Sora was either, but Sora had earnt his right to sit here at the tavern with men three times his weight with a bottle of rum and a sign that read ‘crew wanted.’
He’d watched the boy lurk around the edges of the pub, never making eye contact with anyone for more than a moment. His hands were tight on the neck of his cloak in an almost comic way of hiding his face from everyone. On the run, Sora thought. He’d seen that expression before and it always made his stomach twinge. To have something to run from – that was the dream.
