    Summary

There’s a new god in the pantheon; Andrew remembers hearing about the scandal a while back, the newest Demeter having a child with the current Zeus and then going on the run, child in tow. They call him Persephone, the god of springtime and new life, the antithesis of Andrew's realm. It would be ludicrous of Persephone to ever interact with Andrew at all.

If only someone told Persephone that.

    --

    “Hades, right?” Persephone asks.

“Andrew,” Andrew responds, and Persephone hums.

“Nice to meet you, Andrew. I’m Neil,” Neil responds. Andrew cuts a look sideways to see Neil watching him, something assessing in his gaze. Andrew nods in response. “I have to say, you’re not nearly as scary as everyone says you are,” Neil continues.

“You barely know me. Give it time,” Andrew says, because the rumors don’t exaggerate. People fear him for good reason.

“I’d like to, I think,” Neil says. Andrew quirks an eyebrow at him. “Know you,” Neil clarifies. Before Andrew can think of a response, Neil’s head turns. “I have to go. Zeus called for me, and he’ll notice if I’m missing. Thanks for the cigarette.”

    Summary

Neil had gotten used to quick turnarounds, what with the suddenness that inmate firefighting often had. He’d learned to go where he was directed, when he was directed. But this was a different kind of toughness, the looks on the rest of the crew’s faces as they loaded up their gear. It wasn’t grim, or determined; they knew what they were heading for, and they were ready for it.

    They were excited for it.

He wondered, briefly, why he was here. This was everything he’d sworn never to do. He didn’t love fire, not like these people did, and he didn’t love the land, not like they did. But he glanced around and saw them all talking and laughing, and him on the outside, and he thought, that. They were all pretty asshole-ish people. But for some reason all of them, even Andrew-Minyard-his-maybe-psycho-roommate, wanted to be here. Wanted to do this together. Wanted to be part of this family.

Neil wanted that with a bone-deep ache, so much it hurt.

    Summary

After a public fight involving a little too much cupcake frosting, romance writer Henry Fox must deal with the obsessive speculation that one of his most despicable characters is based on the very successful model turned photographer Alex Claremont-Diaz. Which couldn't be further from the truth. There's a reason for why Henry's love stories are almost always unrequited, immensely emotional yet devoid of any real hope, and that reason is currently vagueing him in a series of scathing tweets that has Henry's publisher calling a crisis meeting.

The solution? Henry must rewrite his upcoming sequel in a way that redeems the character in question completely.

The problem? Henry's attempt to get away from it all so he can actually write leads to a direct confrontation with Alex himself. After a series of clandestine kitchen encounters, the two of them end up with a very fragile truce. But can you really find friendship, or maybe even more than years of achingly unrequited yearning, when you don't have the courage to let your disguise fall? How do you really tell the difference between fiction, and the truth?
