Summary
In hindsight, Martin probably should have turned it down, but when faced with Elias Bouchard's polite smile and an offer that would put his financial struggles behind him for good, accepting the promotion to Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute just seemed like a good idea at the time. Even if it put him at odds with Gertrude Robinson's former assistant.
The good news is that there are far worse things to contend with than a disgruntled Jonathan Sims.
The bad news is that he's going to have to.

Jonathan Sims, Academy-Award-nominated actor, accidentally wanders into Blackwood Books in the midst of a panic attack.
Unbeknownst to either Jon or Martin, this accidental encounter thrusts them both onto a path that neither could have ever predicted: one of healing, growth, and love of the sort that neither imagined was possible.

Summary
When Martin Blackwood has an especially stressful or difficult day at work, he often finds himself drifting back to a summer he spent in Bournemouth when he was a child. He remembers the first long week, where he was sure he was doomed to isolation. He remembers how he was snapped out of isolation by a girl with over sized boots and a glare that could kill. He remembers walking through the streets, while listing to her narration. He remembers the girl who became his very best friend and the lovely little summer they spent together.
Martin would love for nothing more then to see her again, for nothing more the to see what kind of a person she became, little does he know, his childhood best friend is right under his nose the entire time.

Gerard definitely didn't cry when Michael Shelley died. He definitely didn't cry when he came back, either.
