    Summary

Magic dances at the edges of Xiao Zhan's fingertips. It's the Solstice night, and The Untamed Lounge is packed with bodies. He sings into the night, scanning the room for the sensual bartender currently serving a drink for one of the regulars. He lets he senses open, out of curiosity, and dips into the man's emotions. The cold grip of fear freezes him in place.

Despite his cool exterior, the younger man is scared, and Xiao Zhan hasn't the slightest idea why.

It's darkness night of the year, and Wang Yibo is the only supernatural standing between him and never seeing the light of day again.

Yibo kicks at Xiao Zhan's ankle.

    Xiao Zhan ignores him.

Yibo sighs heavily, looks down at his phone, scrolls a little. Takes a sip of water. Kicks Xiao Zhan's ankle again.

"My friend," Xiao Zhan says absently. "Do you remember? About the murder?"

"I do." Yibo says it cheerfully and is pleased when Xiao Zhan drops his phone into his lap and turns fully towards Yibo. "Do you remember how pretty I am, though?"

Xiao Zhan tilts his head at him. "How could I forget, Wang Yibo?"

Yibo feels his grin get bigger—he can't help it. What is it about Xiao Zhan using his full name like that that gets him going? He just likes it so much. He wants him to do it again.

Or, hello, here is what will be 42K of extremely self-indulgent on-set flirting. I have completed writing the 2nd part and am just finishing the edits on it - it will be up before too long!

"Who do you think your betrothed is?" Wei Wuxian asks, sprawling out in front of Lan Zhan and enjoying the prim thinning of his lips at the question. He shouldn't be sprawling—they're in the library, for one, and Lan Zhan is studying, for another—but he can't help himself. Wei Wuxian is a sprawler.

"I do not believe this to be of importance," Lan Zhan responds, without turning his gaze away from his book.

"What!" Wei Wuxian sits up. "How can you say that? Of course it's important! This is the person you'll be with for the rest of your life, Lan Zhan."

Wei Ying usually comes over late. Well. Wei Ying usually comes over late for this.

They don't really talk about it. Oh, Wei Ying talks--he talks ceaselessly while in bed: murmurs of approval, breathless requests, exhaled appreciations. But they never talk about why.

Or, Lan Zhan goes along with things until something happens that forces him to make a choice.

    Summary

Flushing in embarrassment, Wei Ying hurries over to A-Yuan and crouches to place his hands on his shoulders. “A-Yuan, that’s enough,” he says. “Sorry, Lan Zhan, he used to go to a different bookstore where they host regular storytimes, I think he thinks you’re the designated storyteller for the day—”

He gets to his feet, holding A-Yuan at his hip, and glances up to look at Lan Zhan. It’s an awful, terrible, horrible mistake. This close, every detail of his face is utterly inescapable.

“Story time,” says A-Yuan, lower lip wobbling dangerously.

Wei Ying glances around, finding people staring curiously at the scene unfolding before them. “A-Yuan,” he hisses urgently. “We need to go. I’ll tell you a story on the way home, okay?”

“Do you really need to go?”

Wei Ying starts at Lan Zhan’s voice. He’s still looking steadily at him, an unreadable expression in his eyes.

(Seven years after running away from home to pursue a story that would expose one of the biggest media scandals in recent years, Wei Ying runs into the last person he’s expecting to see at a quaint, forgotten bookstore he hasn’t set foot in for a very long time.)
