Summary
In hindsight, Satoshi should have noticed the change sooner. It wasn’t as if it had happened overnight, obviously, but he had never been the sharpest Honedge in the shed...or whatever the saying was. Not to mention, he wasn’t exactly looking out for the signs in the first place.
So, it snuck up on him, attacked him when he was least expecting it. Because. Well...
Being with Gou was fun.
No, just calling it fun didn’t cover it.
It was the most fun he had ever had in all his 20 years.
Being with Gou was like going on every single adventure before, but at the same time.
Every time he would catch a new pokemon would be like the day Satoshi caught Caterpie. Every time he’d take Satoshi to Sinnoh, it felt like the first time he and Pikachu sailed and met Dawn there. Every time Gou battled, every time Gou listed off a pokemon fact, every time he did anything, Satoshi could swear he had never experienced it before. Somehow, being with Gou made everything new.
Being with Gou made him forget he wasn’t supposed to be 10 forever.

Summary
“Why don’t you just tell him?” Koharu asked. She sipped quietly at her juice box, giving a small giggle when Yamper rolled over on his belly to be scratched.
“Because I could die,” Gou said, folded over the back of the lounge’s couch.
“Don’t be so dramatic.”
Gou scoffed at that, a pout permanently stamped on his face. “I’m not. If he doesn’t feel the same, I can actually die.”
“I somehow find that hard to believe,” Koharu deadpanned.
“Oh yeah? Ask your dad! He’s the one that showed me the whole article on it in the first place, you know!”

Summary
But then Keith falls quiet and looks up him, indigo eyes bright and soft as he whispers to him, voice terribly sincere, “I’d never let you go, Shiro.”
The way Keith says it, so unbelievably honest and matter-of-fact makes it sound like he were stating a simple truth, and he might as well have said ‘birds fly’ or ‘stars are bright.’ His words are doing things to Shiro’s heart once again, and Shiro tries desperately to not give it too much thought, too much meaning, and he tries not to wish they meant more than what they simply were.
He knows he’s failing.

Summary
They say sharks going after people—children—is rare, if unheard of, but a starving great white mistaking a surfboard for a seal? Unfortunately all too common. Shiro doesn't blame the shark, knows and understands the desperation of gnawing hunger like any other animal would. It couldn't have understood what was wrong with its actions, let alone realize that what it had bitten into wasn't a seal.
That night Shiro dreams of frenzied, red water and teeth. Too many teeth.
