    Summary

“Look, are we doing this or what?” Xue Yang asks, knowing he’s doing it just to get them to notice him, hating that he’s doing it just to get them to notice him. Why does he care? They’re just his annoying neighbors who make him put out his cigarettes and turn down his music. He doesn’t even like them. The only reason he agreed to this ‘dinner’ was because it was pretty clear that they invited him here for sex.
So why the fuck does he care so much? Why does it make his gut clench at the thought that they might’ve changed their mind?
    Fuck this. He doesn’t care.
He stands. “It’s pretty clear you’re not going to put your money where your mouths are. It’s cool; I got shit to do at home, anyway.” It’s a lie. He has nothing to do but maybe have a smoke—making fucking certain the smoke blows into their yard—and own some asshole in Medal of Honor.
“Sit down.” The order doesn’t come from Song Lan as Xue Yang expects, but from Xiao Xingchen. And it’s almost not an order at all because his voice is so soft and not at all commanding—but Xue Yang finds himself obeying anyway.

    Summary

The shadow bends down and picks up one of the discarded wallets. “I believe this belongs to me.”
    Shit. They’re fucked.
Even though Xue Yang can’t see him, he recognizes the voice. He turns to Qing-mei and he knows it’s not her fault because she doesn’t know much about Xue Yang’s past—and that’s deliberate—so she doesn’t know who he went to high school with, doesn’t know anything about him other than their shared shitty childhood in the foster care system and their unceremonious ‘graduation’ from it, expected to pretty much fend for themselves the minute they aged out—
    “You stole Song Lan’s wallet?”
“Who the fuck is that?” Qing-mei jumps up, her fight or flight clearly active and ready to go.
“He’s someone I knew in high school.” And even that doesn’t completely cover it. “We kinda hung out sometimes, I guess.”
“No,” Song Lan clarifies, his voice low and cold—but not disdainful. Like Xue Yang isn’t even worth that. “We did not hang out. You stalked Xingchen the entire time. Until you dropped out.”
    The big guy’s not wrong.

    Summary

The problem is, Lan Wangji hasn’t been able to stop thinking about him. Meng Yao had asked what Lan Wangji wants; what he wants is a clear mind. To not be plagued by thoughts of a man whose name he doesn’t even know. He keeps playing their next confrontation in his head, a movie with infinite variety. He imagines he would gain the upper hand. Not through wit, probably. Intimidation, maybe. He’d crowd the man, to make him hear what Lan Wangji had to say. Push him against the wall, if he tried to escape. Fist his hand in that black hair, if he—
