    The Swiss Cheese model of accident causation likens human system defences to a series of slices of randomly-holed Swiss Cheese arranged vertically and parallel to each other with gaps in-between each slice. Defences against failure are modelled as a series of barriers, represented as slices of the cheese. The holes in the cheese slices represent individual weaknesses in individual parts of the system. The system as a whole produces failures when holes in all of the slices momentarily align, permitting "a trajectory of accident opportunity," so that a hazard passes through holes in all of the defences, leading to an accident.

    Yibo blows on his signature to make sure it’s dry and then carefully closes the album. Their fingers brush when Yibo hands the album back and he feels the spark right down to his toes, electricity jumping between them. Yibo looks the fan up and down quickly, hungrily, heedless of all the eyes that must be on them. The fan is holding a DSLR in his other hand and Yibo swallows hard, licks his suddenly dry lips when it finally clicks.

    “Are you a fansite?”

    He offers Yibo a secret little smile, the kind that lingers, lighting a fire in Yibo’s gut that has nothing to do with the weather. “I got a lot of great photos of you today. You’re a photographer’s dream, Wang-laoshi.”
