People disappeared, that's just how it worked. It was extremely rare for a missing person to be found. Such stories were rumors, or maybe campfire stories, and everyone knew how the story would end. Cold.
Cold case or cold body, the stories always ended the same.
Ethari knew this, so when his friends went missing he knew that was it. He would never see them again. The world kept spinning, though, and he had to move on.
