Altaїr is a young father with a whole mountain of problems ahead of him. His little sons Darim and Sef are constantly keeping him on his toes after their young father only recently moved to the busy city of New York with them. Every day is a constant struggle for the young man and his only support in those dark times is his older cousin Desmond Miles who works as a barkeeper in the Big Apple. And it is same Cousin who finally sheds some light into Altair's stressful life at last with a new job opportunity - if it only would not be a job so frivolous.

"Well, that happened." Malik sighed more to himself after Altaїr made sure Darim was neatly tucked in and well with his teddy before he left the room. Of course, the poor idiot would worry about his kids before himself. He could be lying bleeding on the floor with all his organs hanging around outside his body like they were on a rave and he would still worry more if Darim would have a bloody nose. And fuck, he loved this about him.

Altair is the Eagle of Masyaf. Eagles have excellent vision until they don't. Then they are unable to survive.
Nobody walks away from the Tomb unscathed. But not every injury is as visible as a missing arm. Nor do they always heal quite right.

The silence stretched, even more, growing awkward and tense. Altaïr had to guess at where the feather was. Trying to not show discomfort, Altaïr reached out and hoped that he felt the feather on his fingertips. Instead, he felt rough parchment and the polished wooden surface of the counter itself. It was damning. "... how long have you not been able to see?" Malik asked.
"I can see," Altaïr said.
Malik scoffed. "If you could see, then you wouldn't have tried to reach for something that wasn't there."

A beat, and another set of hooves sounded behind him, and then Leofrith was beside him on the larger of the two stallions; a velvety black beauty with a stark, white star upon its head. Eivor looked over at his newfound companion, and hoped his smile was not as smug as it felt.

Summary
The man’s voice once again broke him from his thoughts; “In my dreams I see them tortured by Fire Nation soldiers. I see my entire culture wiped from the South, our footprint upon the ice shelves gone as though we never existed, our connection with the spirits and our ancestors forgotten.” He was silent for the briefest of moments, then, “You’re Fire Nation, aren’t you?”
Zuko rolled onto his side, facing the wall, scar pressed into the arm that cushioned his head. “Once, maybe.”
“Answer me this, then; when will this war see it's end?”
Zuko, recalling the fire that had burned in Azula’s sunlit gaze the day she’d caught up to him, chose not to respond.

He collapsed next to a stream, breath pulled from his lungs in painful gasps. He dropped the dao, feeling sick at the sight of them, hating himself for running, for being relieved he’d made it out alive when so many hadn't.
Laying on his back beside the stream, tears and smoke in his eyes, Zuko wished he’d received the same mercy as his mother.

Growing up, Zuko had always been told that his sister Azula had been born lucky, and that Zuko had been lucky to be born.
Despite the fact that the man who had told him that was gone, locked away somewhere deep beneath the palace where he’d never be able to spew any of his hateful rhetoric again, Zuko couldn’t help but privately wonder if he hadn’t had a bit of a point. Just in that statement, and nothing else.
