But Yuuri’s answer was not at all what he expected.
It was, however, the kind of answer he liked. It sparkled in his mind and puzzled him enough to keep him awake that night, pondering the irony while he was sitting alone in his bedroom with the smell of ocean salt and driftwood still clinging to his hair.
“I want you to be yourself,” Yuuri had said in reply.
And wasn’t that just the funniest thing?
This whole time, Victor had been trying to figure out which mask to wear to make Yuuri happy, when all he wanted was for Victor to take it off and show him the real person beneath.

The set of Yuuri’s mouth softened into a private smile as Victor squeezed his knee beneath the table. His hands were bare, free from the gloves he so often wore when they were together on the rink, and the heat of his palm burned straight through the denim of Yuuri’s jeans. He slipped his own hand beneath the table and found Victor’s. Hidden from sight, their fingers began to flirt and play. A secret conversation all their own that needed no words.
Yuuri was aware that at some point—a moment in time he couldn’t quite place—Victor had become his boyfriend.
There wasn’t a single instant when it happened. It was a slow awareness, as if Victor had silently been asking the question for months now, and Yuuri had been giving him the answer a little more with each passing day.

Victor gasped audibly for air. At last he smiled, and his eyes felt a little moist. “Yaaakov! I will?”

Watching his husband's eyes dazzle with excitement as the bright lights he'd strewn reflected in them, making the stunning amber even more beautiful made the domestic activities that much more understandable to the assassin.
What he still hadn't fully grasped, though, was the simple (as Ethari told him through encouraging, albeit very patiently delivered instructions) act of wrapping gifts. He supposed it could serve as a metaphor; he was an assassin, after all. Taking things apart remained easier than putting them in a nice package.
