Summary
Humans are sentimental and Tsukishima has always thought Yamaguchi was a perfect example of it. All the evidence he needed lied in the old, battered polaroid only held together by magic that Yamaguchi seemed to bring everywhere he went.
It wasn’t anything particularly special either. It had a simple charm, allowing anyone who touched the photos to feel the emotions of the photographer at the time they took it. But it wouldn't have been too troublesome to get the same charm cast on a new Polaroid either.
All in all, sentimentality seemed to explain it just fine.

Lan Wangji breathes in.
"We'll see each other in a month," he points out, although he also wishes to see his beloved. After a moment, he adds: "Miss Wei Ying, too."
Wei Ying groans.
"Er-gege! Don't say it when I can't kiss you, it just makes me miss you more! A month is way too long, can't we see each other sooner?"
"Wei Ying-"
"Yeah, I know. We're needed at our sects. I know that. I just want to see you."
Lan Wangji sighs. He shares the sentiment but they are currently too busy to freely see each other, especially since the conference is so soon. He doesn't wish for his fiancé to be sad but the fact remains that neither of them can make the journey right now.
"Hey, Lan Zhan."
"Mm?"
"I love you. I'll see you soon, yeah?"
"Love you too."

Whether we have to wait five or ten or twenty years for the other tie to our soulmark, we can always rely on the ever-changing nature of the mark, to know that our ties are still true. If they ever change color, we may have a new path to search, and that is okay.
If our colors do not change, yet our designs do, then maybe, our Marked are changing, too. To know they will be ready, when we finally meet.
