Rejected from joining the guard of the port city they grew up in, Cass decides to go out traveling in search of a new place to call home. But the trading ship they board to begin their journey is destroyed in a storm a couple weeks out at sea. Injured and clinging to the floating remains of the ship, Cass loses consciousness, only to wake up on a raft lashed together from debris with the open ocean all around them.
Wondering what lies beyond the waters of her family's clan and curious about the surface, Rapunzel leaves her home on a journey of exploration. Far from her home, she starts to follow a ship that she finds, wondering what she might learn about the people of the land. The ship is destroyed in the night by a terrible storm, and Rapunzel only finds the remains in time to save one sailor - and she's devoted to keeping them alive.
(MerMay Cassunzel story with human non-binary Cass and mermaid Rapunzel)
What if Zhan Tiri never stole the acidic potion from Demanitus's chamber, so she was still trapped in the black rock cage and couldn't interrupt when Cassandra took the Sundrop from Rapunzel?
Well, with no use for it and confronted with the reality that she doesn't have a destiny, Cassandra returns the Sundrop to a barely-conscious Rapunzel and flees with the Moonstone as the eclipse fades. While Rapunzel and her friends seal Zhan Tiri away with Demanitus's portal and begin to rebuild the city, Cassandra thinks about what to do with her life. She realizes that if she has no greater purpose, she should pursue happiness by doing what she enjoys -
And two of her favorite things are fighting, and Rapunzel's attention.
(Enemies to lovers fic with Cassandra as a harmless villain whose main feature is showing up in Corona at increasingly inconvenient times to challenge Rapunzel to fight her, while Rapunzel desperately tries to run her kingdom and figure out how to reconnect with Cassandra in a way that doesn't involve them engaging in supernatural battle.)

The Sundrop and Moonstone, divine spirits imprisoned in the mortal world in the form of a flower and stone, are in love. So when the Sundrop disappears, the Moonstone is willing to do anything to get her back. But when she attempts to fuse with an organic creature to be able to communicate with the Sundrop's new form, everything goes wrong. Her mind and the human's are shattered into pieces, leaving the hybrid with splintered memories and no sense of self. She destroys the kingdom that was once her home in a misguided act of revenge, leaving behind a wasteland that Rapunzel calls Underworld.
Bound by a promise to spend half her year in Underworld alone with Cassandra, Rapunzel must figure out what happened to her friend and discover the truth of the Sundrop and Moonstone.
A different motive for Cassandra's turn.
Instead of Cassandra finding the Saporian memory wand and accidentally erasing Rapunzel's memories, Rapunzel finds it and doesn't mention it to Cassandra. Frustrated by how Cassandra refuses to talk to her that night, Rapunzel uses the wand to alter Cassandra's memories while she's asleep of what happened in the Great Tree. Delighted by Cassandra's change in demeanor not being angry with her anymore, Rapunzel holds onto the wand to "fix" other problems between them.
During the season 2 journey and before reaching the Great Tree, the caravan is knocked by a fallen tree in a storm. The hole it causes in the roof lets rain poor into the caravan, completely soaking Rapunzel's mattress. Until it can dry in the sun, she is left without a bed.

“O, swear not by the moon, th' inconstant moon,
That monthly changes in her circle orb,
Lest that thy love prove likewise variable.”
AU where the Sundrop and Moonstone don't exist, Cassandra is the prince of the Dark Kingdom, and the plot is driven by political motives and romance.
