Summary
“All right, are you now finally ready to explain why four time world driver champion Charles Leclerc is currently in my living room?” Max says, as Charles towels off his hair.
Charles pauses, lets the towel fall into his lap, stares at Max with wide eyes. “I’m sorry, did you say four time?”

Summary
Max had come to him right outside the cooldown room in a dark corner and he had kissed him, all long and searching and slow, holding Charles’ face in his hands and it all felt so wildly deliberate Charles thought maybe he meant it after all. He has always liked how Max kissed: like he was trying to tell him something. They were still in race suits. Charles’ face was still in his hands when Max pulled back and said, “Just this once,” like he was bargaining more so with himself than with Charles. There was no bargain to strike with Charles; he should’ve known that.

The blues and purples that clash against the fair skin on Max’s knees are a painful reminder of mornings like these; he kneels over the toilet seat, rests his sweaty forehead on the as a short, sweet relief before he raises it again, coughing profusely into the bowl and watching as the petals crinkle and darken with water.
More flowers—roses, specifically.
It’s always roses.

“Do you know him?” Arthur asks.
“No,” Charles decides. Because he does not. He knows Max is a mathematics major, and that he plays chess. And that he hits the gym. And what he looks like when he comes. Details.

Summary
As the ‘I can’t do this anymore’ slipped from his lips, Charles missed his exit and continued straight ahead, unable to fully see the exit sign through his tears.
The tears fill his eyes as quickly now as they had done in his car that day, and Charles finds himself realizing that he hasn’t felt happiness since. Not even once.
