    Summary

It wasn't something she had to think about. Aoko knew what to wish for as soon as she heard the offer. Not that there weren't other things she wanted – everyone had things they wished for! But this was the wish that she was willing to fight for. Kid deserved to grow mold in a jail cell, and she deserved to have her father back.

Also, it wasn't every day that you were asked to be a magical girl.

Know anything about Madoka? Me neither. But if you're looking for KaiAo drama, you've come to the right place - and then some. Look out, Moonlight Magician, there's a new magic in town.

Billed as the first in a series that - as of this writing - never quite got off the ground. Not a day goes by that I don't wish it had.

Short on stakes, but long on charm - goes down well with The Brave and the Bold, or all by itself.

Any man who has something he'd die for has something he'd kill for.

So ends the first of these five dossiers, one of the finest peel-backs I've seen for Kaito Kuroba - for any fictional swashbuckler - in style and substance alike. The next four rise to the challenge the best they can; perhaps they meet it, perhaps they don't, all I know is that at a thousand-odd words apiece they've explored the rest of the so-called Gosho Boys (and special guest-star Sleeping Kogoro) better than twenty years of manga has. Anyone trying to write Beika - or Ekoda - with an extra dose of Realism could do worse than this as their starting point.

(Probably the last work here that needs any introducing - you'll find it on seven or eight out of any ten rec-lists for this fandom, and anyway its Stats speak for themselves. But in the event you've never heard of it and need more convincing...)

Do you love superheroes? Do you love the detectives of Beika (and beyond)? Do you love stories that mash these two things together and don't punch you in the gut approximately five times per chapter?

Then pull up a chair and leave those big bad Dominoes for another time. This number's just for you.

In which Ran Mouri faces a mystery like no other. Ingredients: immaculate prose, warm characters, a solution that lands with perfect speed and leaves you wishing to God it hadn't.

Let the fossil-record show that the fandom has gems much older than this. But for its Archive era, I can name no better torchbearer.
