“I don’t want to sell,” Rey said. “That doesn’t seem like a complicated concept for you to grasp, and the fact that you can’t get started ruining another block isn’t really my problem.”

“Ruining?” The furrow in his brow deepened; so did his voice.

“I saw what you did across the street. That ridiculous monolith? You’ll forgive me if I’m not exactly enthused at seeing another block wiped out to match it.”

He blinked at her. Anger was evident on his face, blossoming up swiftly, then contained again, neutral. But Rey could already see that he had a tell: the way his full lips pursed slightly, then relaxed, like he was chewing on his own hasty reply and swallowing it back down in favor of something more thoughtful. That, and the faint tic under his eye.

He used his clean fingers to fish out the shiny black phone from under his robes, and looked at the caller.

"Of course," he said tersely. "I'm sorry, I have to go. Work."

    "Don't forget your scythe."

She stepped away from him, where it was several degrees colder, and checked herself over.

The fuck did I just let him do, she thought.

“On Friday we received a visit from a man and his lawyer.” Mr Kenobi opened the folder on his desk. Rey instantly recognised it, her eyes widening, dread filling her.

“What... what do you mean? What is going on?” She said, her tone firm. Whatever this was, if it involved her son, she needed to know the truth now.

“His name is Benjamin Solo. And he claims his son was illegally put up for adoption eleven years ago without his consent.”

The new guy on Rey’s bike commute doesn’t realize that she’s faster than him. Modern AU featuring bike messenger Rey, a Ben who doesn’t understand good bike etiquette and varying levels of angst.

“You’re everywhere,” he says, looking down at her with a slight frown. He sounds almost accusatory. The way the shadows from the park lights move, she can only see bits of his face, his large nose and mouth.
“And you’re an annoying person to share a bike commute with,” she says, irritation weaving into her attraction to him. “You’re not faster than me. You should stop shoaling me. ”
“I don’t know what that word means.”
“The way you pull up in front of me every single day,” she says, waving her hands. “Stop it. I am faster than you. It’s my job to be faster than you. Literally, I beat you every day.”
He's amused now, and oh, his face when he smiles. He looks relaxed, dark eyes warm. “I didn’t realize it was a competition.”
“It’s not,” she says loudly. “But if it was, I would win.”
