Summary
Shortly after their ecstatic reunion, an unexpected rift settles between Rhys and Vaughn. While seeing Vaughn alive and well fills Rhys with enough happiness for an entire lifetime, Vaughn emotionally withdraws, becoming polite at best and openly scathing at worst. Summary
Vaughn went through his entire first year and a half of college without going to places like this, except for maybe two or three incredibly awkward attempts to socialise in the first few weeks. He’s been just fine without trying it again since, thanks, but now here he is, for the second night this week, after the two times last week. After whole semesters of literally never leaving the campus. And why?
A bright cry of, “You’re here!” flies out from behind the bar once he finally, minus a few compound fractures, reaches the front of the tidal wave of people. The words hit him a split-second before Rhys’ neon grin, and Rhys’ floppy hair, and Rhys’ shirt with the sleeve cut off around his cybernetic arm and the collar stretched down enough to show the beginnings of the tattoos on his chest, the whole handkerchief’s worth of fabric generally clinging obscenely to his body.
Right.

Will it always be like this? Ryan wonders, watching Shane lope up the snowy walkway and pushing his way through the front door, humming some jolly old tune in that way Shane’s prone to do. Theatrical, performing for an audience even though Ryan is the only one around.
It must be because it’s all new. Somehow, he’s caught in the glow, the glimmer, the delicate fragility of what they’re building. Somehow, he’s alone with this guy, this one guy who looks like he’d say screwed the pooch and would strike up small talk about cutting grass on a Sunday morning, whilst simultaneously boasting about his “eclectic” taste in music when it’s all indie bullshit sung by bands with names of various vehicle components.

“So kids, for the last week, we’ve been discussing the fundamentals of duelling.” Shane lounged easily against his desk, robes hanging open haphazardly. Ryan snorted to himself, sitting at the back of the huge room, and he saw Shane’s ear twitch.
“So today, now that I have a partner, it seems like a fantastic time to demonstrate!” He announced. It was Ryan’s turn to twitch. “Professor Bergara is your new Divination teacher, he’ll be starting his classes after the weekend. Please stand up, Professor.”
“E-excuse me?” Ryan said, turning terribly red.
In which Ryan sees the future and moves to Scotland, meets his hero and isn't impressed, hears strange noises in the night, and interrogates some ghosts. After all these years, the castle still keeps its secrets.

Summary
“You’re called the Treasure Chest,” Shane says blankly to the man behind the counter, who is looking at him with a completely neutral expression. His name tag suggests that he is called Ryan. “It’s -- literally every sex shop in the history of sex shops was called The Treasure Chest. I’m pretty sure it’s in the by-laws.”
“The by-laws ... for sex shops?” Ryan asks.
Shane fixes him with a look. He sells crystals, which means he’s a con man, which means he’s a deviant of at least some kind, which means he’s been to a sex shop and he knows exactly what Shane means. “Listen,” Shane says, and then nothing else, because Ryan The Counter Man pulls an arm behind his head to stretch and the sight of his surprisingly beefy arms short-circuits Shane’s brain.
The man blinks patiently at him. “I’m listening,” he says, encouragingly.
OR: An AU in which Ryan runs a crystals store, and Shane is beguiled by him anyway.
