There's a reason Lance was told as a child that wandering into the forests was dangerous.
He'd already met that very reason once and might not have escaped with his life if it weren't for the creature's hesitation and his guardians being there.
So of course he had to run into the same creature again, all alone with no one knowing where he is and wishing to be on his own.
Lance's luck is just wonderful.
