‘If it would be for me to decide your fate, I would let you bleed out with a knife run through your liver.’

There it was: the truth, naked and honest.
'Nobody' watched him without an ounce of fear, cocking his head to the side as if to ponder the deeper meaning of his words.

Suddenly, his short-blade danced through the air in one fluent move, and Malik braced himself for the strike, waited for the pain to blossom in him. He blinked in confusion when the leather-bound grip was presented to him, along with a curt nod and one of those tiny smiles.

    ‘Then deliver your justice, Dai.’

    Summary

    Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad had died….

In the mortal realm that is.

Wonders never cease as his soul was carried away to some other realm where men are no longer human but energy passing through a checkpoint to be processed. Their fate weighed, their end calculated and the decision made.

Leave it to Altaïr to have angered even Fate.

    ---------

Altaïr is tasked to carry the souls of the dead back to Fate to be judged before entering the afterlife. To cleanse his own sins, he must accomplish each task or face a fate far worse than death itself. Through this, under the watchful eye of Malik; a Judge of Justice for the Fates, he shall be redeemed while simultaneously discovering a betrayal that led to the assassin's untimely and very unexpected death.

Altaïr is in over his head.

    Summary

Rising from his stool, Malik made his way around the counter to approach Altaïr with a cautious step. "Are you ill or simply mad?"

No answer. Altaïr tensed as Malik approached. For the first time in hours, those eyes finally tore away from him long enough to dart for the doorway then returned to meet Malik's dark gaze. Altaïr shifted his weight back a step until his hip bumped one of the shelves that housed numerous books and scrolls carefully organized and categorized for ease of retrieval.

Malik stopped a few paces short when Altaïr had started to look more akin to a cornered aggressive animal and less like the assassin he was accustomed to. The man he grew up beside and trained with for most of their lives.

"Altaïr?" His brows pinched together with concern, voice edged with caution as he eased a small step closer. He gauged whether or not the man was going to allow his approach or bolt for the exit. He half expected the latter with how stiff he had gone as Malik's hand reached for the assassin. His lips drew back into another snarl, a low sound rumbled in his throat that was anything but human that made Malik flinch.

For a moment he thinks that Altair will not come through. That Malik will have to try and patch him up right here on the cold stone floor. But then the other man’s eyes do flutter open, his gaze unfocused and bleary, before it finally settles on Malik with a frown.
