Summary
There is no escape. Mount Massive and the Engine doesn't just disappear because they've run away. Distance doesn't do anything. Eddie's thoughts are quieter, but they still linger. Things from his past that he has fought to forget creep up, things he doesn't want Waylon to know threaten to be told and destroy Waylon's fragile sense of self now. He's barely holding on, barely getting enough sleep at night. The only thing he has is Eddie, but his dreams won't let him forget the version of Eddie that threatened to destroy him before.

Eddie has moments of clarity, usually in the day time, usually when the sun peaks through the windows bright and glowing, during the time of day when nothing really seems all that bad. When the variants seem to rest, using the night to hunt their prey. Everything is backwards here. But during the day, it feels a little safer. Even safer now that he has Eddie to protect him. Sometimes that feels dangerous, too, but Waylon has figured out ways around it. There are loopholes, it seems. Things he can get Eddie to agree with that will stick if he repeats it enough, shows the importance through his words and his actions. But The Groom doesn't always keep his promises.
