Summary
With her (ex)husband very newly arrested, her children in shambles between all the changes life has forced them into due to Martin's murders, Jessica can't help but feel like she's not being the mother her children deserve as she struggles to keep them, and herself afloat in their new lives.
She feels even worse about how she's handling things when she's desperate enough to beg Gil to take them away for even just a few hours so she can stew on how bad of a mother she feels like she is.
She doesn't know what she'd done to deserve people in her life like Gil, or how she'd gotten lucky enough to have the two best kids in the world, but, well, by the end of the day, she doesn't feel like she's quite as bad a mother as she's thought she was.

Summary
Malcolm plans to meet his little sister for coffee and a stroll through the park after his recent dismissal from the FBI and rather abrupt return to NYC. He just so happens to come across a woman who's far tenser than she should be, and a man who's leaning far too close into her personal space.
He can't in good conscious leave anyone in such a state, so he butts in. Turns out she had it handled, but he's completely fine to just sit back and watch everything unfold as her emotional support and fake boyfriend.
or,
Malcolm meets Dani before the crime scene in the pilot episode, and happens to stick around and watch while she's telling her (mentioned) Ex off.

Summary
Malcolm gets himself stabbed while on the hunt for their newest killer. He just sorta... well, fails to mention he's bleeding excessively when he finally finds Dani. He didn't mean to not tell, just, how're you supposed to mention to your team you've been stabbed?
Then, in true Malcolm Bright fashion, the hospital can't hold him back, and there's still a case to finish up-- the team's thrilled to see him (mostly). And, yeah, maybe all the teasing that comes along with checking himself out of the hospital early after nearly dying is warrented?

Summary
The latest case the team just finished up leaves Malcolm a bit more shaken than he'd care to admit. He doesn't want to be alone, so it's a good thing he's got company in the form of Sunshine. A sleepless night is much more bearable with his chittery little roommate.
As it turns out, Malcolm's not the only one shaken up. He'd never turn away a friend-- especially not after the depressive cloud that had followed them around the entirety of the case. Besides, he and Dani never did get around to that grilled cheese, did they? He really just hopes Dani doesn't mind Sunshine hanging around too.
This is pre-relationship, but it can be read as just Malcolm and Dani friendship, or pre-Brightwell.

Summary
A new killer makes himself known; taunting and teasing the major crimes department, as well as dropping bodies left and right. Multiple nights without sleep, trying to get the threat of their newest killer off the streets in a timely manner, leaves Dani, Gil and JT a bit more irritated than usual.
Malcolm seems to be the one taking the brunt of said irritation-- and if his childhood being a serial killer's son had taught him anything, it's how to second guess his relationships when people start getting annoyed with him.
It never really did take a lot to send Malcolm into a downward spiral. It's hard to miss though, as his father's voice fills his head with snide remarks, and a sinking feeling of anxiety settles in his chest. It's too bad someone else gets to Malcolm before Malcolm can get to someone for help.
