In one timeline, Paris had been terrorized by black butterflies swooping down at a moment’s notice. In one timeline it would love the little white ones. In one timeline it would shudder in horror at the phrase ‘Dark Wings Rise’ and in one it would learn to praise it.
For want of a simple horseshoe nail, Gabriel chose not to become Hawkmoth and put his family first. But Paris still needs someone to use the Butterfly Miraculous. If only this time to save it.
Marinette has no idea what she's in for, but even without Lady Luck on her side she'll find a way to save Paris.

Those were the rules laid down by the Jedi Order long ago, and for one Jedi Knight, followed strictly to the letter. Unfortunately for her, (Or perhaps fortunately depending on your perspective of things) her student isn't quite so keen on the code. Restrictive, she calls it. Marooned on a world on the Outer Rim (Totally not her fault, negotiations just went sour, after all!) and in the midst of the Clone Wars and with perhaps very little chance at being found, Twilight Sparkle begins to wonder if the Code's entirely correct in it's laws...

“You no angel yourself,” Swoop pointed out. “Me think you what humans term as a Tsundere!”
“WHAT!?!” Thundercracker gaped sounding a little bit too much like Starscream for his liking. “...That’s completely ridiculous. Completely and utterly ridiculous!”
“Swoop also know another human saying. Denial is not only river in Egypt.”
“...You know, with the benefit of hindsight,” Thundercracker sighed. “Trying to tempt you to the Decepticon side was a stupid-ass decision. You’re far too smitten with Earth.”
“Well, me Swoop did grow up here…” Swoop replied sounding rather smug again. “But you Thundercracker seem to be appropriating Earth for yourself, given you quote great American president Abraham Lincoln back then.”
“Well, I will admit this planet does have its merits…” Thundercracker grumbled in defeat finally swallowing his pride. “Even if this mudball is still not worth all that much…”

Swoop and Thundercracker, trapped in a canyon with no way to contact their respective factions.
Both have their own personal doubts and both have no one to talk to about them.
So why not their enemy?

Adrien was naked.
Literally? Yes. But also figuratively, because Plagg was gone. Plagg in his bag at the school, blissfully pigging out on camembert and watching The Bad Girls Club on his phone. Oh, wonderful. He didn’t have Plagg OR his phone.
He was literally naked because he was changing into a new outfit for the photoshoot.
‘This is a cat-astrophe,’ Adrien thought glumly. A great pun, utterly wasted with nobody to hear it.

Summary
Adrien isn't surprised, exactly, that there are secret passages in the mansion. He's surprised that he hasn't found more of them, because he's certainly gone looking before, but he's never been surprised that they exist. It's only because of Nino that Adrien knows now that secret passages aren't actually standard for mansions and estates.
But Adrien hadn't known about the safe behind his mother's portrait.
And he hadn't known about the elevator.
He had not been prepared for any of this.
