    Summary

“Geralt go! Go!” the fierce urgency in Vesemir voice startled Geralt, the direness of the situation sinking in his tummy as sticky as tar. But before a muscle in Geralt’s body could strain to move, he was caught by the actions of the Witcher.

    “Ego expulit tres; Amorem”

Kacper drove the sword through his entrails, the sound of tearing leather and Vesemir’s bemoaned protest merging. The sword tore back out with a glorious rivet of blood and a cry of profound agony...

Geralt braced himself, “Did he kill the woman?”

Vesemir studied Geralt, “In a way, I suppose. She’d had lived a longer life had he left her. Should you fail someone you love, I have no doubt you’ll suffer a likely demise. Promise me Geralt; should your Witcher eye fall passionate on someone other than another Witcher, do not walk away from them; run.”

When he walks away, Jaskier runs to catch up.

/or Geralt as a child witnesses a Witcher perform a ritual of repentance for failing his loved one; one day he finds himself in the position to perform one as well.

    Summary

Lambert finds Jaskier dying of sickness, alone in the wild, and brings him back to Kaer Morhen for the winter.

"He's the one behind that damn song," Eskel explains. They all know which one; Lambert had laughed for days when Geralt returned one winter and bitched about a bard who wouldn't take a hint. The following year, the song seemed to travel with them, and in some places, people would suddenly shout, "Hey witcher!" And toss coins at him. Lambert stopped laughing after that. Things had been... difficult, after Geralt's actions at Blaviken. "Butcher," they called him, and "Murderer." Witcher became synonymous with killer. After Jaskier, he'd been hailed as a hero in places. "Friend of humanity!"

    That damn song.

"I couldn't leave him to die," Lambert defends himself, although neither of them have accused him of anything. Vesemir glowers a moment, and then nods his assent.

"Bring him inside; we'll see what we can do."

    Summary

Ah yes, the melodrama of having a heart. Jaskier is well acquainted. He would like to grieve its pieces in peace without all the wars and feuds in the way but alas fate is not kind to pining bards who have little common sense.

    Summary

Ghost Lake was Jaskier's refuge. His little property, surrounded by forest, afforded him sanctuary the glitz of Los Angeles never could. Sometimes though, he misses being Dandelion - of having bright blonde hair, an unwavering voice, and the adoration of everyone around him. He especially misses this at night, when only the howling of the nearby wolfdogs accompany his broken singing.

[Or, Jaskier is an ex-teenage popstar whose career was cut short after his cancer diagnosis. Rather than return to the industry after his recovery, Jaskier runs away from his former life and stumbles upon the Kaer Morhen Wolfdog Sanctuary.]
