    Wèi Wúxiàn nearly dies at Nightless City from a mortal wound after it is discovered that he has no golden core. Wēn Qíng is found, and is offered protection for her people if she saves Wèi Wúxiàn's life.

    When the dust settles, Jiāng Chéng insists that they return to Bàoshān Sànrén. Wèi Wúxiàn refuses, stating that she would deny her help because they had lied to get her to repair Jiāng Chéng's core. But he can't live with the knowledge that he took this chance away from his brother by pretending to be him and returns to the mountain range in search of the immortal.

    Lotus Peir still needs to rebuilt, inquiries into Mèng Yáo's loyalties need to be made, Wēn Qíng keeps giving him guilty looks, and he doesn't understand why Lán Wàngjī is lurking around Yúnmèng instead of returning to Gūsū.

    When he finally manages to find Bàoshān Sànrén's mountain, he learns that there are more secrets afoot than he thought.
