No one sees you quite as clearly as an adult who must care for you abruptly, with no forewarning.

SINGLE BEST de-aging fic ever in any fandom.

Also: Harry Potter needs a CSI lab for the Aurors, and can't understand why they want there not to be one.

In which the swap of the elder near-death Neville and Harry with their nine-year-old counterparts is a thirty-odd year project with hundreds upon hundreds of variables, hidden choices, inexplicable alterations, and deeply unanticipated results.

In which the job of Warding means much more than any Reader ever considered. In which there are much more vast Dangers To The World than Tom Riddle. And in which the Sainted Dead are proven to be far more human than anyone ever said to the boys (all four of them).

And in which South and Central America and the Pacific Islands are far more central to World Wizarding Society than anyone tells the kiddies.

SINGLE BEST Harry Potter multiple-universe fic.
SINGLE BEST old-and-young Harry and Neville fic.
SINGLE BEST international politics of the Wizarding World fic.

Do have your tissues handy, and watch out for drink-and-food hazards. This author actually knows how to write gut-wrenchingly hilarious dialogue.

‘We may have won the battle, but I fear the war with winter is just beginning.’

The aftermath of war is no laughing matter. Those who died must be honoured, those who are wounded must be healed, and those who remain need food and clothing, peace and sanctuary. With Thorin's life hanging in the balance, it is up to Bilbo and the rest of the Company to rule the rag-tag remnants of Erebor in his place.

Then there is the matter of the gold...

Can Bilbo save both king and kingdom, or is Erebor destined to fall deeper into ruin?

THE BEST restoration of Erebor fic. Struggling to make it through the first winter is exacerbated by sabotage from an unknown person who seems to have it out for the King's Hobbit.

Archie Goodwin does legwork for Nero Wolfe for a despicable crime in the Europa Habitat.

This is note-perfect cosy murder-and-other-crime mystery. Read it for the story. Re-read it to find all the goodies.

    Bookmarker's Notes

For once, it is not by his design, or by Fate's design, or even by accident. Dumped precipitously and damagingly from the apocalypse of the decades-long war against Voldemort into the summer of his own 15th year of life, the catastrophically competent Boy Who Lived, renaming himself Blake Slytherin (because why not, after all) decides that, as long as he is there, he might as well rescue his younger self from the horrors of his own timeline.

This is not a happy story, as such, but it is a deeply satisfying one, a nice long one, with no filler, no issues glossed over, no stone left unturned, and no enemies left unaffected.

Go on, read it. You know you want to.
