“Oh,” Wei Ying says, folding his arms across his chest and cocking his head to one side arrogantly and narrowing his eyes, “I can growl.”

The words squirm inside Wei Ying like worms. He selects the least offensive one, pulls it up through earth into the daylight of their mood-lit bathroom:
“Could we do, um. More?”
