It’s not meant to be lying on the sand before her feet, vulnerable, exposed, wheezing for breath under the relentless midday sun.
Rey crouches down curiously.
She can’t see its face, hidden under a wild mane of black hair that's splayed over pebbles and sand—but she knows very well that the face will not be that of a normal human’s. Or so she’s heard.
It belongs, after all, to a monster.

Summary
After Ben’s career as a concert pianist is brought to an abrupt end he spirals into a mess of alcohol, drugs, and bad decisions in order to ease his pain and loss. One such bad decision comes to him in the form of a young woman who seems to know his music better than he does himself. Or perhaps she’s simply the light at end of a very dark tunnel.

A slow burn, dark twist on guardian/ward tropes.
