Summary
When Wei Wuxian found himself flying backwards after rushing into the back of a man his first thought hadn't been to apologize, but rather to get back up and continue running. By the time he had pushed himself back up onto his feet and grabbed the wrapped package of bread and various other scraps he had collected, a hand had sent him flying back down onto the ground once more. Despite the blossoming pain he grabbed for the package, crying out when the dogs who had been chasing him previously grabbed onto it and tore it open within a matter of seconds.
The same hand that had knocked him down only seconds before reached out and gripped onto the collar of his robes, hoisting him up as if he weighed no more than a feather. Wei Wuxian's small, scratched hands gripped at the man's wrists as he dangled in the air. His frantic breaths and small whimpers seemed to die within the sound of the man's deep chuckle.
“And what have we here,” he grinned, assessing the boy in his grip, “such an insolent child, you were going to run, weren't you?”
