    Bookmarker's Notes

Uniquely good fanfic, this one. It reads like an actual, published book. Man, I felt for Harry. Such a decently written protagonist. All the elements reach such high standards: complex characters in general, stellar fucking plot, even the portrayal of racism against squibs and whatnot.

Voldemort was delightfully horrifying in a very refreshing way, and all, epic fight scenes etcetera etcetera, good prose yadda yadda, but I just don’t really care anymore about the story. I didn’t read past, what, the beginning of the third arc? However, I think it deserves a bookmark and praise in the notes anyway because of the compelling first and second arc.

    Summary

A work exploring the events that took place before the calamity- detailing Link's chaotic ascendance into the royal guard, his first meetings with each of the champions, Zelda, and the people who raised him. [Complete!]

"Link tossed the sword down. It stayed upright, embedded into the dirt and mud. He wanted to tell her just how desperately he’d wanted to reject it and put it back into its pedestal. The way he ran and lied, and was still lying. King Rhoam was the one who insisted the truth be buried, but Link didn’t utter a word of protest. He may have come clean, but he had no intention of coming clean to all of Hyrule.

He felt he didn’t owe Hyrule anything.

But the question remained, just how much did he owe Zelda?"

    Bookmarker's Notes

Fic has one of the best characterisations of Link I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. It has a lot of good points, but Link and his dad stand out in my mind particularly. Sort of adopted the writer’s backstory for them as my own headcanon; I dunno much about headcanons, but Link and his dad being alone and him having a very free, masculine upbringing is my preferred idea of Link’s childhood. Roots has that and more. It’s funny as hell too. All in all, I like everything about this portrayal of Link and it is a prime example of stellar fanfiction.
