    Bookmarker's Notes

100% not what you would expect from this crossover, but the plot reflects the characters' own dispositions perfectly. I will forever be boggled by Xichen's wealth, and I kind of want a companion fic to explain how he came to be that well-off while still belonging at Cereus, but I digress. And I found the way wwx got accepted into Valerian to be hilarious, as it had never occurred to me that there was such a glaring fault in their selection process, when I first read the novels, though it of course seems unbearably obvious now.

    Summary

Not to sound too arrogant, but Lan Xichen was completely confident in his ability to seduce his roommates. In fact, he’d done it before. The only problem was, he didn’t want to seduce one of them, he wanted both of them, together, with each other.

And being quarantined together seemed like just the opportunity.

Hey, wtf is going on in Lan Xichen's apartment?

Lxc seems so completely OOC when compared to his mdzs/cql counterparts that I feel like it should've warranted a warning tag, but once you realize and get over that, the fic itself is utterly fun and enjoyable.

    Summary

When the doorbell rings, Wei Ying lunges for it and triumphantly throws open the front door. He looks down, expecting to see a package. But there's no package on the front stoop. Instead, there's a baby.

A real actual live baby, nestled within a car seat. It blinks at Wei Ying, and he blinks back.

Then he opens his mouth and screams.

(In which A-Yuan is dumped off on Wei Ying's doorstep. He and Lan Zhan raise the baby while falling in love.

...Yeah, it's one of THOSE stories.)

    Bookmarker's Notes

wwx's characterization in this one is the thing that ultimately made me decide to stop reading. On one side, I have issues with how completely useless he is portrayed to be in all aspects of his life that aren't his studies. Which are almost irrelevant to the plot, anyway. On the other, even setting aside the fact that I believe there to be a limit to someone's powers of denial, which in this work border on willful ignorance, this particular plot point is used again and again and again, continuously remarking the same exact pattern of thought on wwx's part until you could skip entire parts and still know exactly what's happening.

    Summary

"Zewu-Jun. You once told me about a house surrounded by gentians, where you visited once a month, and how Lan Zhan still waited there, even when the door no longer opened."

Xichen feels light-headed. He feels shocked, and angry. He has never told anyone such a thing, but Lan Zhan is giving Xichen a look of utter betrayal.

"You told him?" Lan Zhan whispers. "When?"

Wei Wuxian takes Lan Zhan's hand. "About twenty years from now."

Wei Wuxian starts again from the beginning.

    Bookmarker's Notes

So many kudos on the idea for this fic! The concept of wwx finding a way to come back in time and fix his (and everyone else's, really) mistakes is a truly compelling one. Sometimes there are bouts of truly inspired humor, and other times there's that kind of jokes where you just laugh while asking yourself why you're laughing so hard for such a joke.
I had never even thought Qingxicheng could be a thing, and here I am loving the idea and development of this beautiful relationship. Seeing a version of mdzs where mme yu and lqr aren't so misguided in their love that they basically become evil themselves has been so refreshing, and watching those two interact with their grandchild was lovely.
There's a lot of good stuff, and I loved the ending with the Yunmeng trio, wwx's siblings ferrying him through one of the worst hours of his first life into a new and probably bright future.

But there are also things that made me want to quit the fic on a few occasions =/
Lwj reads like his character was developed on the edges of other characters' storylines. In his dialogues (both internal and spoken) he's been reduced to a machine only able to think with the most rigid kind of logic and only inside fixed parameters, to the point where he seems dense and ignorant to a fault, instead of young and inexperienced.
But chiefly, most of the work feels rushed, trying to fix as much as possible as quickly as possible, more than a few times at the expense of the characters' internal consistency or of the plot itself.

All in all I am glad I got to the end of it, and I am sure I will come back to this fic to read selected parts because the good in this work is good, but I am also sure I will not be rereading it in its entirety.
