It was a good question for a normal person, but Jiang Cheng wasn’t normal. He thought about lying for about a second. He usually avoided telling people these kinds of things, but Lan Xichen seemed different. Besides, after he left today, it’s not like he would meet the man again.
He closed his eyes and resigned himself to a bit of oversharing. “I was running away from my shithead brother.”
“Now it’s my turn to say there’s a story behind that.” Jiang Cheng could still hear the smile in Lan Xichen’s voice.
“It’s not really a fun story.” Jiang Cheng started and opened his eyes a crack to glimpse at the bartender below his lashes.
Lan Xichen made no expression to tell his reaction, just the simple smile that always graced his face, still focused on Jiang Cheng’s hair. “Hm,” Lan Xichen hummed. “Tell it anyways, if you’re comfortable. I want to know more about you.”

Before he could stop himself, Stiles started, “Did you see the game last night?” And immediately cringed. He was never really able to control his mouth, was he?
Hot Construction Man quirked an eyebrow, and wow, that was a look. Stiles needed to learn to shut up.
“The Dodgers game, I mean.” Stiles tried to explain, “They played the other night, against the Mets, which is my team. I mean not my team, I obviously don’t own a baseball team because I work at a gas station and make like zero dollars an hour. Which you didn’t need to know, but yeah. I just thought- Because of your hat- You know what, nevermind. I’m shutting up now.”
He sighed inwardly. Throughout this verbal tirade, HCM’s eyebrows had gone higher and higher, and now they sat pointedly on HCM’s beautiful forehead. If he was surprised or amused, Stiles couldn’t tell just yet.
HCM shook his head and simply said, “Busy.”
Stiles stifled the urge to smirk at his one word answer.

Steve gets out of the hospital in two days, but just barely. “I’m fine,” he tells Sam, Nurse Eunjung and the phalanx of doctors assigned to make sure Captain America didn’t bleed out and die and get bad PR all over their nice clean hospital. “I have an advanced healing factor. It’s fine. See? I’m standing.”
“That is not standing,” Sam tells him.
“You’re bending the IV stand,” Nurse Eunjung adds pointedly. “Let go and sit down, they don’t grow on trees.”

Wei Ying lets out a long, ugly groan. “I am fine, Lan Zhan. Everybody is overreacting, it’s so embarrassing for all of you.”
“You had undiagnosed pneumonia, which you walked around with for weeks until you passed out during dress,” Lan Wangji corrects him. “It got a big laugh, until everyone thought you were dead.”
He keeps his voice even and does not tell Wei Ying that it had been Lan Wangji who caught him, who called the ambulance, and who rode with him to the hospital, where he was yelled at by nurses who wanted to know why he hadn’t noticed that Wei Ying couldn’t stop shivering or string proper sentences together.
“Rumors of my demise have been vastly overstated,” Wei Ying says. “Anyway, I’m already feeling much better. Basically fine. Really almost completely back to normal, so stop babying me and tell me why the fuck you let your stupid brother hire the worst man in the world to host our show.”

Not about the dumb plant, but the instant devastation he’s currently overwhelmingly and inescapably capable of. He can destroy with one touch now.
This is going to complicate things so much.
Or the one where Stiles tries to do the noble self-sacrificing thing: gains a new power, a spectral skin colour and basically ruins his own life. 0/10 would not recommend.
