"You'll change your mind one day," says the innkeep. "The road can't love you back."

What a strange way to flatten something so beautiful, Jaskier thinks. What a small way to love.

Or: When Jaskier is hit with a curse that prevents him from having sex, he's lucky that the first person he meets is a Witcher. It's even luckier that Jaskier is used to hitting the road, because Geralt isn't waiting up.

    Summary

When Witchers were created, so to were The Companions. A person who journeys with a Witcher to keep them sane, to heal them, to offer comfort, to reassure villages that the Witcher is not a monster, will not go on a rampage, or slake their needs at the local bawdy house. A Witcher cannot travel without a Companion, and Companions are granted agelessness to follow their Witchers.

After Blaviken, Geralt is without a Companion, them having fled after the massacre. And perhaps it was the second...fifth one to flee Geralt. It wasn't his fault they were morons.

Jaskier has been fired by one...three Witchers for being too mouthy, frustrating, a list of things that he thinks is quite unfair.

Vesemir makes it clear they are each other's last chance. Work well together, or Jaskier will begin to age again, and Geralt will never leave the walls of Kaer Morhen.

Jaskier and Geralt are deeply unimpressed with each other but agree to play along. They didn't expect to fall madly in love. Soulmates are just fairy tales, after all. Not for the likes of them.

If one could look into Geralt's mind right now, as he attempts to court his bard, it would sould vaguely like:

Do-don't be suspicious, do-don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious -

AKA Geralt takes Jaskier back to Kaer Morhen and must deal with the consequences of trying to court the bard in front of his family.

(For the prompt: Geralt and Jaskier take a younger Ciri with them to winter at Kaer Morhen. While there, she takes a liking to Lambert. As per usual, at no point did Lambert sign up for this.)

The first mistake was falling back on his usual method for getting adult humans to bug off his case.

Though in his defense, how was he supposed to know that some little kids actually liked being abruptly upended and dangled upside down by their ankles?

    Summary

Despite Jaskier's hard work, there are still plenty of people who hate witchers. They think they're monstrous, inhuman, only held back from violence by a thin veneer of control. One mage has a plan to spread his views by capturing a witcher and bewitching them to remove their control. When the Butcher of Blaviken walks into his hideout, he's convinced he's found the perfect candidate - and a convenient way to get rid of the pesky bard that's been singing his praises.

Jaskier is forced to agree witchers are not human, but that doesn't mean they're dangerous. In fact, he's astounded by how many of Geralt's uncontrolled impulses involve touching.
