“Thunderhead?” Wren asked, voice quiet. The house was dark, the lights turned off as they should be at one in the morning.
“Yes, Wren?” The Thunderhead replied, its cold, metallic voice cutting the suffocating silence.
“I...I think I might not be a boy anymore.”

It starts in the desert and the sun is beating, beating, ever-beating and Bronte feels the thrumming of his blood. It starts in the desert and the heat starts to kill him. His mother falls to the earth, hands drawn in a prayer, half-lidded eyes pleading to the sky, pleading to anyone who will listen. Bronte doesn’t know what to do, he’s never known what to do. It starts in the desert and Bronte runs.

Emery stepped closer to Bronte. “Well, if you insist on staying out here, may we at least have a dance?”
Bronte almost took Emery’s offered hand before he looked back at the blinding light coming from the gala.
“This is a bad idea.” Bronte’s voice was barely louder than a whisper, but by the way Emery tensed ever so slightly, he’d definitely heard it.
A.K.A. Bronte has super shitty self-esteem and Emery is Concerned™

Bronte knows the feelings slowly blooming and unraveling in his heart aren’t right. He knows that he shouldn’t look at Emery in the way he does, that he shouldn’t feel his breath catch in his throat every time he speaks to him.
It doesn’t stop Bronte from wishing for a softer future, wishing for just a singular ‘I love you’ from the man he can’t help but love and the ability to say it back.

Councillor Bronte takes one look at the child that entered his classroom and gives up on his lesson plan for the day. Sophie Foster is, for lack of better words, a tired mess and a train wreck all wrapped in one.
He didn’t expect her to start crying, though.
Basically: Sophie is not doing okay and Bronte is trying to support her as best he can while also having no clue what he’s doing and only working off past experience from when he was doing really bad and desperately hoping he’s doing the whole “comfort the people you care about” thing right. Sophie is crying for 99% of this.
This is, surprisingly, my most fluffy work so far.
Mind the warnings.

Just found out what bookmarks are for and this is my first victim. Stunning storytelling and characters, absolutely in love with the plot, please, /please/ read it when you get the chance. Will hurt you, definitely, but also it's very worth it and you will cry but in, like, a good way. Might come back and write an essay on this or something, it definitely deserves that much. Mind the warnings though!
