Karl sinks further into the seat, wants to hide, “You don’t like it, though.”
“It’s not that I don’t like it. I’m just...not used to it, I guess?” Sapnap turns his head away again, folds his hands in his lap, takes a deep breath, as if he’s going to say something rough, something that will hurt. Karl braces for it, “You’re a lot.”
Karl looks down at his hands, which shake with bitter disposition. He feels like he doesn’t know himself at this moment, the confidence gone, his inability to read others iridescent, forth-coming. He’s a lot. He chokes, “I am?”
“You are,” Sapnap gives him a look, remorseful. “You’re overwhelming. Your house, your clothes, you, it’s all a lot to take in.”
Sapnap keeps expecting Karl to kiss him on the cheek. It never happens. It bothers him.
Or: Sapnap realises he might have feelings for Karl.
sapnap wants to hold him until all their worries disappear, wants to plant the roots of their love and not fall out of its tree once it grows tall enough to climb, reaching for the stars from the top to place them in the palms of the other boy.
sapnap wants to give him everything; to be his everything.
or; sapnap and karl figure out they are in love and karl isn't ready to let sapnap go home just yet.
he wants to sleep, exhaustion settled deep into his bones, but his mind hums in confusion still, hung up on his conversation with karl. it was nothing special, it's how they are; playful flirting for their audience. nothing more, nothing less. a routine they both know.
sapnap wonders why it keeps him up then, wonders why his fingertips tingled when karl blushed after he called him pretty, why he found it hard to swallow around the lump in his throat when karl called him handsome.
or; five times sapnap calls karl pretty, and the one time karl finally does too.
When Sapnap unpromptedly shows up on Karl’s doorstep, Karl doesn’t expect himself to be thrown into the deep end. But with Sapnap staying over at his house for nearly two weeks, he’s forced to uncover a patchwork of realizations, confusing feelings and foreign thoughts.
It happens in a Goodwill, of all places.
Karl finds him in between the racks of clothes, and his brain stutters to a stop. Sapnap is holding a sweater in his hands, inspecting it with his brows drawn together, head tilted in contemplation, and the sunlight hits his face just right, softening his features and accentuating the slope of his nose, his hair is a little ruffled where it falls over his face. Huh, Karl thinks, and then, oh.
