“Where are you taking me?”
“That's for me to know and you to find out.” Donghyuck muttered, his brows drawn together. Hell, he didn't even know where they were going.
Or rather, a first date of sorts; a fluttering of hearts against secret glances.
A sound from the mud room, Jisung’s deep laughter and Jaemin’s giggles alike, and Renjun has Mark slipping on a pair of Renjun’s shoes and slipping down the fire escape.
“Go!” He hisses, and Mark winks, taking his sweet time to tease Renjun. He's gone down several steps silently and carefully when he suddenly turns around.
“I forgot something,” he says, and it’s over before Renjun even knows. A kiss on the cheek, barely felt by Renjun. The sentiment lies there though, bubbling over with delight.
And then he understands it. Like an anchor drifting towards death, he feels his heart sink. Mark sees them; he sees the linked connection between them, fuzzy eyes, golden meadows built in hearts. They are nothing but together, nothing but two parts of puzzle, stacked together, forever.
Or, Mark finds Love. (Love, with a capital L, for the vanilla drenched pancakes and gracious callbacks to his heart.)
“Because, I love you, my darling.” Mark has to close his eyes to prevent his blush.
He has to remember that Donghyuck isn't real, a jewel of a ghost left in this hideous castle to rot. He has to remember that nothing about this scenario is real, that Donghyuck’s fingers can barely brush across his without disappearing through. He has to remind himself that the only person Donghyuck loves is a Mark from centuries past.
When Mark debuts as an idol, Xuxi begins to wonder where it all went wrong. Hadn't they promised to fulfill their dreams together?
When Renjun takes to the stage, it’s easy to forget about the life he has behind it. And when the band takes their places behind him, Dejun strumming out the beginning chords and Yangyang setting the steady underlying beat, it feels like his heart. Pulsing, forcing warming blood through his veins. Lucas plucks out the baseline, and his fringe drops into his eyes and Renjun laughs as the crowd screams in response. Chenle presses his hands to the keys and spins out arpeggiated synths that blend seamlessly with Dejun’s guitar.
This is Heart!Breaker.
And this is a story in two parts.
