Summary
Alternate Universe, Canon Compliant: All dragons have the ability to shapeshift into humanoid, though still distinctly non-human creatures. They don't do it often, especially in the presence of other dragons - and least of all, humans - so, like a lot of other things about them, this was unknown to Berk's residents for the longest time...
Until Hiccup met Toothless, and they turned the world upside down.(A series of Missing Moments and occasional retellings of canon moments in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, based on the AU described above. Mostly, but not necessarily, in chronological order.)

The Red death had been defeated. Hiccup and Toothless enjoyed practicing their flying. Suddenly, the other Berk dragons vanished. Hiccup didn't know where they went, and neither did Toothless.
Essentially, Gift of the Night Fury within the ASV universe.

Hiccup couldn't do it. No matter how he looked at it, being chosen to kill the Nightmare as the victor of dragon training had backed him into a corner, and without either sacrificing Toothless or himself, he saw no possible way to change the minds of the Vikings of Berk. The moment he went out there, he'd either be killed by the dragon (since he knew he couldn't bring himself to kill it) or strung up and tortured, executed, or shipped away as an outcast/possible slave for having gone 'mad' and betraying his people to 'side with the dragons'.
It wasn't fair that the dragons were so misunderstood, and it was even worse that Vikings were as stubborn as they are...
So he saw no choice but to leave.
"Take me away from here bud. We can't stay any longer, and I already made up my decision. I can't risk losing you. We'll just have to... We'll just have to take on the Queen ourselves. And pray that Astrid doesn't tell my dad first, otherwise there's going to be a lot of bloodshed..."
Toothless only gave a small croon of empathy, before taking off into the night. Unaware of the journey about to take place.

Summary
Hiccup, son of the King of the Wilderwest, is struggling to accomplish the bare minimum of his status. That is, to capture a restless spirit, learn to control its fire, and join in the hunt against the cannibalistic ghouls that prowl the archipelago. He intends to do just that, until his latest attempt lands him in an unorthodox bind with an unusual spirit.
As Hiccup tries to hide his affliction, outside forces invade the Council of Chieftains, political ties are made and broken, and dark tidings come from the Mainland. To make matters worse, a mysterious spiritual energy is reducing Hiccup's peers to the foul forms they hunt in the night, and no one seems to agree on what to do about it.
If they are to stop the suffering of human and spirit alike, Hiccup and his new companion must find common ground between their kinds, before all falls into chaos.

Drago Bludvist won against the Berkians and in a show of dominance and power, beheaded their once savior and heir. All things, however, are not how they seem. Hiccup wakes up six years ago, thoroughly confused and more than a little nauseous at dragon raids still happening, her friends not being her friends, Asher ignoring her along with everyone else, her father not knowing what to do with her, and her leg still attached. Even though she loved her village, friends, Asher, and her father, it seemed almost cruel for the gods to make her go through it all over again. But on the bright side, she has a chance to correct her mishaps. Despite it costing her so much. Let it not be said that Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III ever made the same mistake twice.
