    Summary

Special Agent Miya Osamu has had a rough go. Another one of his leads is dead. His list of cold cases continues to grow. No one believes him when he says Suna Rintarou is the crooked son of a bitch responsible, and Osamu's reputation at work is tanking.

He's on the brink of calling it quits when Suna approaches him requesting protection in exchange for information about the last two men who turned up dead. It's an offer Osamu can't refuse, especially when it could be a turning point for his career and one final shot at gathering enough evidence to throw Suna behind bars.

And especially when it leads to a bigger case he hadn't expected to interrupt—a case headed by none other than Special Agent Miya Atsumu.

    Summary

There’s so much Suna wants to say. He wants to reassure Osamu that he made the right choice and that his hard work and long hours and chronic exhaustion will be worth it. They’re still young, they’ve got time, Osamu doesn’t have to rush the process, and no matter how endless the late nights might seem, there’s always the promise of dawn breaking over the horizon.

    But—sometimes—words aren’t enough.

    “How was it?”

“He’s an idiot. As I suspected.”

“That sucks.” There’s no need for half-baked shock or sympathy. Kiyoomi wouldn’t appreciate it, and besides: Atsumu’s decision to keep his piss-colored hair for the past two years doesn’t really indicate stellar intelligence.

    “But he’s a good kisser.”

“That’s good,” Motoya nods, and then the chip he’s munching on is slipping down the wrong pipe. “Wait, what the fuck?”

On growing up and out, through the eyes of Komori Motoya.

“What do you think?” Suna asks restlessly as he continues towelling his hair. His voice is less casual than he’d like—there’s a slight waver in it that makes Osamu turn to look at him.

    “About?” Osamu asks.

    “About the… the transfer.”

The transfer. Not my transfer. Not what do you think about me leaving. Not what do you think about me moving to a prefecture that’s more than four hours drive away on a good day, or two and a half hours by the bullet train that I can’t afford on a regular basis.
