    Summary

It starts like every other fight. Liu Qingge lands one hit to Luo Binghe's every three, both of them bruising and collecting injuries like art. It drags on until the sunlight starts to fade, until they're both breathing heavily and covered in a fine sheet of sweat.

And then Luo Binghe makes a mistake.

It's small - just a minor misstep, an unfortunate shift of balance. Against any other opponent, it wouldn't mean a thing. Wouldn't make a difference. But Liu Qingge has been watching. Liu Qingge has been waiting for Luo Binghe to make a mistake for years. He quickly changes his attack mid-step, throwing his weight against the opening Luo Binghe's mistake left, and Luo Binghe falls. Liu Qingge falls with him, of course -he compromised too much of his balance with that attack - but he makes sure to end up on top, straddling Luo Binghe and pressing the flat of Cheng Luan's blade to his neck.

Without meaning to, without thinking to stop it, Liu Qingge smiles at him, bright and genuine and triumphant.

    Luo Binghe's breath catches.

    "I win."

    ---

~Or~ The one where Liu Qingge actually wins a fight and Luo Binghe ends up getting a little hot for Shishu.

    Summary

Wen Zhuliu! You turned my Uncle Jiang into a useless person and killed him, you tormented my shidi into despair, you left me in the darkness with no way out – you get what you deserve!

Wei Wuxian looked at the golden core pinched between his fingers. Such a small and delicate thing; even a little pressure would be enough to shatter it, and Wen Zhuliu’s hope would be forever gone.

Just like Jiang Cheng’s had been.

    Just like Wei Wuxian –

    He suddenly thought of something.

(in which it occurs to Wei Wuxian that two golden cores among three people, one of which is soon dead, is still two cores, and also that sometimes not all of his ideas are smart)

    Summary

When his father said that someone ought to get rid of Nie Mingjue, that he was in their way, that he would never stop, Jin Guangyao’s first thought was about the Song of Clarity that Lan Xichen was teaching him – and the Song of Turmoil, that he’d taught himself. He’d long ago noticed the similarities in the tune between them; it wasn’t enough to fool anyone skilled in music, of course, but Nie Mingjue rather infamously wasn’t.

His second thought was: let’s wait and see.

(And then Nie Huaisang got involved...)
